Congratulations are once again due to our member, Peter Jenkins, as he continues to achieve greater and wider recognition for his astrophotography work.
First, as reported in this month's newsletter, one of his pictures has been shortlisted from many thousands of entries in this year's Insight Astronomy Photographer of the Year competition run by the Royal Observatory Greenwich, and will appear in the published book of all the shortlisted and winning entries. More details of the competition can be found using this link: http://www.rmg.co.uk/discover/astronomy-photographer-gallery
Second, one of his pictures has also been published today (27th August) on NASA's Astronomy Picture of the Day site. NASA's APOD site receives tens of thousands of picture submissions each year, so to be chosen for one of it's daily slots is an amazing achievement. His picture of IC1805, the Heart Nebula was originally supposed to be used on 22nd August but photographs of the eclipse bumped it back a few days! If you like to see Peter's picture on the NASA page, this is the link: https://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap170827.html.
You can also view it, his Insight competition entry and all his other images on his own website, www.pjastro.co.uk.
Congratulations once again Peter!
