Membership

Thank you for your interest in our society. A read through our website will outline the principle activities and aims of MSAS, including maps and information about how to get to the Sherwood Observatory.

We hold monthly members-only lecture meetings at the observatory, along with a number of other observing and training evenings for society members.

If you are interested in joining the society you can download a membership application form here:  MSAS Membership Application Form. This will then need to be completed and returned to our Secretary for approval by the committee.

The annual subscription is £48.00, charged pro rata according to when you join during the society's financial year, which runs from April to March. We also offer reduced rates for Junior members and Family groups - all the prices can be found within the Membership Application PDF above.

Unfortunately we can only accept members below the age of 16 as part of a family group since the society child protection policies do not permit members below the age of 16 unless they are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all times.

Members with more than 1 years membership (or earlier at the discretion of the committee) who have proved competence in operation of the society’s small telescopes and received training in the operational procedures for the use of the main telescope and associated equipment, and have reached a satisfactory level of ability in both, shall be authorised to hold keys and any such devices for the Telescope Control Panel (see the telescope training page for more information).

The swipe card and keys cost £15.00, which is refundable on termination of membership if the card and keys are returned.
