Visiting Groups

Visiting Sherwood Observatory is a great way to learn about our Solar System and the wider universe.

We cater for all types of groups such as Scouts & Girl Guides (we cover all the various badge work), WI, U3A, Round Table and many other private groups.

A Voyage of Discovery visit to Sherwood Observatory consists of a talk on any astronomical subject and a tour of the dome that houses our main telescope a 24 inch Newtonian reflector and weather permitting viewing the night sky.

Your visit to Sherwood Observatory is part of our outreach program and is very important to us and will be handled by knowledgeable, enthusiastic society members who will have one aim in mind, that is to give you an out of this world experience.

Our Voyage of Discovery season starts at the end of September and runs until the end of March, to take your first step on a Voyage of Discovery please contact our group visits organiser by email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

While we can not entertain our Voyages of Discovery program at our prefered location of Sherwood Observatory , we can offer an  online service via ZOOM

The talks would be relavant to any specific badge requirements for our uniformed section of our outreach program such as Guides ,Brownies ,Beavers ,Cubs, Scouts and Rainbows.

Viewing would be by a camera on a telescope and should the weather be against any live viewing we can use a dedicated astronomy software program to replicate the night sky .

This software gives realistic views of what is available to see on any particular night.

If this is something that will help you and your space cadets on their astronomy journey ,please dont hesitate to contact the visits link above

or phone 01623 552276 and leave a message and someone will get back to you as soon as possible.
